  3. Transfer the mixture to the baking dish and spread evenly.
  4. Top with breadcrumbs or crushed crackers, and sprinkle nuts if using.
  5. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the top is golden and apples are tender.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving warm.
